Sports Medicine Conference Takes Place Memorial Day Weekend

Cincinnati SportsMedicine and Orthopaedic Center and its Research and Education Foundation and Mercy Health are sponsoring the 32nd Annual Advances on the Knee, Shoulder and Sports Medicine Conference at the Sonesta Resort, Hilton Head, South Carolina from May 27-30. Over 300 orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, athletic trainers and physician assistants are attending the conference, which is directed by Mercy Health Physician Frank Noyes, MD and a dedicated team from Mercy Health.

This is the largest course of its kind in the United States for doctors, physical therapists and certified athletic trainers involved in all aspects of sports medicine, including arthroscopy, injuries, specialized surgery and specialized rehabilitation necessary to restore function and allow patients to return to their occupations and athletics. Experts will teach important preventive programs aimed at reducing sports medicine injuries, including a two-day Sportsmetrics knee and ACL injury prevention course that precedes the conference.

Conference faculty recognized nationally and internationally as experts in their respective fields will present and teach the latest treatment advances. Dr. Noyes will give over 10 lectures and special breakout sessions on all aspects of knee injuries, including the latest advances on meniscus repair and transplantation, Mako partial knee replacements, ACL surgery and total knee surgery in young patients. Samer Hasan, MD will direct the shoulder and elbow portion, noting important advances on rotator cuff shoulder surgery, shoulder dislocations, arthroscopic treatment of shoulder disorders and total shoulder replacements. Sanjeev Bhatia, MD will lead the hip program with lectures on diagnosis and treatment of hip disorders, arthroscopic hip surgery and hip preservation advances for younger patients. Tom Lindenfeld, MD will provide lectures on shoulder and elbow disorders in conjunction with Dr. Hasan.

The conference will also feature the largest course of its type to teach physical therapists and certified athletic trainers specialized therapy that not only to prevents injuries but also provides post-operative therapy. 

In addition, orthopedic surgeons participating in a one-year Fellowship will have the opportunity to present their individual research at this national meeting.
