The Auxiliary of Mercy Health – West Hospital Awards $22,000 in College Scholarships to 10 Outstanding Local Students
Mercy Health - Cincinnati, which provides advanced, quality care with compassion in your neighborhood through its care network, announces that the West Hospital Auxiliary has awarded $22,000 in college scholarships to 10 local students, two more scholarships than it awarded last year.
Each year, the Auxiliary’s Scholarship Committee solicits applications from 26 schools in West Hospital’s service area for the following scholarships:
- Employee dependent
- Hospital Volunteer
- Community
This year, the Scholarship Committee received 27 applications from 11 different schools.
“Each year, the caliber of applicants impresses us. The quality of the students’ grades, activities, essays and recommendations was superb. We score candidates on a scale of one to 100 and 12 of the candidates had a score of 90 or better,” said Shirley Frey, who chairs the Auxiliary’s Scholarship Committee. “In response, the Auxiliary once again agreed to offer extra scholarships to recognize more top students.”
The students received their scholarships at a special meeting of the West Hospital Auxiliary held on May 16.
