Mercy Health Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Hosts Runner’s Symposium in Anderson Township on February 3

Just in time for start of race training season, Mercy Health – Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine is hosting the 2018 Runner’s Symposium. The symposium takes place from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 3 at Mercy Health - Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, Five Mile, located at 7575 Five Mile Road, Suite B, Cincinnati, OH  45230.

 

Presented in conjunction with Tri-State Running Company, the symposium invites running community members of all ages and experience levels to learn how to achieve their running goals, avoid injury and understand the importance of maintaining an active schedule.

 

Experts will present running strategies based on evidence, best practices and experience that integrate anatomy, physiology and injury prevention and they will also discuss when and how runners should reach out to professionals for help when they need it.

 

Speakers and topics include:

  • Mary Wineberg, Olympic gold medalist and Walnut Hills High School graduate, who will share her inspirational life story of overcoming adversity and personal strife to become a world-class sprinter
  • John Linz, MD, a lower extremities specialist, who will discuss common injuries among runners and prevention techniques you can use to stay healthy
  • Eric Hunziker, an accomplished runner and coach, will cover training mistakes and how to avoid them.
  • Ashley Heuser, a registered and licensed dietician, shares important information on nutrition and hydration information

The symposium will conclude with three interactive breakout sessions on flexibility, cross-training and running/training equipment and accessories, all of which can have an immediate impact on participants’ running success.
