Mercy Health - Cincinnati, which provides advanced, quality care with compassion in your neighborhood through its care network, announces that the medical staff of Clermont Hospital awarded $24,000 in college scholarships to 12 local high school students pursuing careers in healthcare.

The scholarship committee, comprised of chief of staff Stephen Meyers, MD and scholarship committee members Janice Jones, MD (emergency medicine), Ted Heffernan, MD (radiology) and Larry Graham, MD (psychiatry), reviewed a total of 45 applications from students attending high school in Clermont, Brown and Adams counties.

They recognized the following nine high school seniors with scholarship awards of $2,000 each: 

  • Brooke Taylor Ashcraft, Goshen High School, who will study physical therapy at University of Cincinnati
  • Mackenzie Paige Bridges, Georgetown High School, who will study radiology at Ohio University
  • Annaliese Marie Cooper, Bethel-Tate High School, who will study pediatric nursing at The Christ College of Nursing
  • Colton Scott Geary, Goshen High School, who will study biomedical engineering at The Ohio State University
  • Alaina Marie Harover, West Union High School, who will study speech and language pathology at The Ohio State University
  • Jazmyn Jay Hinkston, New Richmond High School, who will study dermatology at University of Cincinnati
  • Makala Belle Lear, West Clermont High School, who will attend University of Cincinnati to become a physician assistant
  • Elizabeth AnnLouise Shinkle, New Richmond High School, who will study physical therapy at Bellarmine University
  • David Shane Stamper, Western Brown High School, who plans to attend The Ohio State University and become an orthopedic surgeon
  • Paige Mackenzie Vilvens, Fayetteville-Perry High School, who will study nursing at Mt. St. Joseph University
  • Hannah Marie Walker, Goshen High School, who will study pharmacy at Ohio Northern University
  • Heather Louise Wardwell, West Clermont High School, who will study medical sciences at University of Cincinnati

This is the 13th year that Clermont Hospital Medical Staff has recognized local students with Physicians’ Scholarship Awards. The hospital’s medical staff funds the scholarships, which are available to eligible students completing their senior year of high school at a school located in Adams, Brown or Clermont County and who are preparing to graduate and attend college to pursue a career in healthcare-related fields.
