The Jewish Hospital — Mercy Health is the latest hospital to join the honor roll of the North American Skull Base Society (NASBS), a professional medical society that facilitates communication worldwide between individuals pursuing clinical and research excellence in skull base surgery.
Skull base surgery is a very specialized technique for treating benign or cancerous growths on the underside of the brain, the base of the skull and the upper vertebrae of the spine. The NASBS Honor Roll recognizes institutions, such as the Brain Tumor Center at The Jewish Hospital, that have a full Skull Base Team of NASBS members.
The Brain Tumor Center, which Mercy Health launched two years ago in partnership with Mayfield Brain & Spine and OHC (Oncology Hematology Care), is home to 22 physicians who specialize in neurosurgery, otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), radiation oncology, medical oncology, neuro-oncology, neurology, neuropathology, neuroradiology and rehabilitation medicine. It offers the only skull base brain tumor program featuring fellowship-trained neurosurgeons and ENT surgeons, the region’s only Gamma Knife® ICON™ radiosurgery program, GammaTile therapy, a multidisciplinary Brain Tumor Board and a nationally recognized bone marrow transplant program.
