Just three months after opening on October 1, 2019, one thing is clear – Enon, Fairborn and surrounding communities have embraced Mercy Health – Dayton Springfield Emergency Center.

Patient volumes at the center have nearly doubled since it opened, reaching 700 in December vs. 388 in October. Nearly one quarter of all emergency center patients in December were children.

The emergency center team has treated a wide range of conditions, including lacerations, orthopedic injuries, flu symptoms, ear infections, gastrointestinal issues, chest pain, respiratory problems and injuries from auto accidents.

Even though the number of patients coming to the emergency center is increasing, the average amount of time it takes for a patient needing non-acute care to see a doctor from when they walk in door is seven minutes, well under the goal of 30 minutes. The average length of time for patients needing non-acute care to be seen by a doctor, treated and discharged is 65 minutes, which is under goal of 90 minutes. Mercy Health has set itself these door-to-doctor and door-to-discharge time goals in acknowledgment of the value our patients place on their time.

Emergency center patients needing further care can be admitted to Springfield Regional Medical Center.

Patients are also taking advantage of 24-hour outpatient lab and imaging services, including CT scan, X-ray and ultrasound, with MRI services starting April 1, as well as visits from the Mercy Health mobile mammography unit every Wednesday.

“We couldn’t be happier with the warm welcome we’ve received from our neighbors in Enon and Fairborn,” said Adam Groshans, President, Mercy Health – Springfield. “Our team provides valuable services to patients in these communities and the patients recognize it. In follow up phone calls to patients, they have raved about the care they’ve received at Dayton Springfield Emergency Center. It’s our honor to ensure they have timely, quality care available when they need it.”
