Mercy Health – Springfield Cancer Center Gets Change in Leadership
Springfield, OH (January 17, 2025) – Mercy Health – Springfield Cancer Center and oncology program will get new leadership following the retirement of the health system’s longtime Oncology Director, Pilar Mock.
She became a member of the Mercy Health staff in 1983 as a nurse aide, going on to serve as nurse education and various other roles including Director of Nursing before leaving the health system briefly. When she returned home to Mercy Health in 2012, she took on the role of Oncology Director.
“I feel so blessed and honored to have worked with wonderful patients, staff, and providers. They all taught me an appreciation of life and kindness during the good and bad times. Life is so short and precious so be and do good in love to those you encounter,” said Pilar who plans to spend her retirement enjoying extra time with family and friends.
Her last day will be January 18, 2025. Since taking on the role of Director, Pilar has been devoted to program growth within the Oncology Service Line, development of staff positions to help patients during their treatment journey, and is committed to community outreach, bringing new and innovative ideas each day.
Under her leadership, the Oncology Service Line has seen the addition of multiple initiatives to enhance the medical care patients receive and has increased support services making the Springfield oncology program more holistic in its approach. She was most recently involved in the creation of the Karen Teusink Integrated Breast Center as well as the creation of a new Urbana Cancer Center.
Lisa Gibson is taking over the role of Oncology Director upon Pilar’s departure. She has been with Mercy Health since 2013, when she joined the team as a Certified Medical Assistant with Clark County Gastroenterology. Her dedication and hard work led to her promotion as a Practice Manager, where she successfully managed several service lines, including primary care, pulmonology, general surgery, and dermatology.
In December 2021, Lisa took on the role of Practice Manager at the Springfield Cancer Center. In this position, she collaborated with the clinic leadership team to design and implement initiatives to enhance patient care. She also partnered closely with Pilar to gain valuable expertise in medical oncology, radiation oncology, and hematology, equipping her to lead the clinic effectively.
“I am deeply grateful for this opportunity and feel truly blessed to have worked with Pilar, whose coaching and guidance have been invaluable in preparing me for this role. I am excited to lead this amazing team of providers and staff, and I look forward to collaborating to deliver the highest quality care to our patients right here in our community,” said Lisa.
