Youngstown State University and Mercy Health Enhance Partnership to Provide Health Services for Students

Health care across the Country continues to evolve as an industry with access to care being a driving factor for families. Locally, collaboration among organizations further fosters increased access to high-quality health care services.

In the Mahoning Valley, Mercy Health and Youngstown State University have enhanced their partnership to provide students increased, on campus access to high-quality, compassionate health care – earlier today, this became a reality with the official ribbon cutting of Mercy Health – Wick Primary Care at Youngstown State.

This new facility will allow students to access services 5 days a week on campus with evening and weekend walk-in care only 15 minutes at the Church Hill Family Health Center on Belmont Avenue.

“We want to enable and empower students to seek care when they need it,” said Dr. James Kravec, Chief Clinical Officer of Mercy Health. “Students who live on campus and even those who commute are able to access services that are part of a large health system directly on campus. Our goal is to continue to help foster healthy lifestyles and serve students both mind and body.” He added.

In addition to primary care access, Mercy Health will provide mental health services during limited hours throughout the semester.

The new student Health Center is located on the corner of Wick Avenue and Lincoln Avenue where the former Campus Book and Supply was located.

“In addition to the new office, we are introducing Mercy Health’s MyChart; which allows students and employees to access their medical records, the ability to message their care team and schedule appointments all from their mobile device or tablet,” Said Dr. Kravec.

Additionally, students and employees can utilize Mercy’s E-visit portal– a new way of accessing a primary care visit without having to leave home. Through a brief questionnaire, patients can be directly connected to a physician who will provide medical advice and prescribe medication if necessary.

“All of this is part of how we can help make health care easier and students focused on their education.” Kravec added.

The new site will also be open to the public with an enhanced convenience for those working or living in Downtown Youngstown.
