I am thrilled to introduce you to our new Emergency Medicine Residency Program, set to launch in the summer of 2025. As the Program Director, I am eager to guide and support you through what promises to be a transformative journey in one of the most dynamic and essential fields of medicine.

Our mission at the Anderson Residency is clear: we are dedicated to developing competent, caring, and emotionally intelligent emergency medicine physicians who will serve their communities with distinction. Our program is built on the foundation of a servant's heart and an owner's mind, emphasizing humility, integrity, and respect for others.

As we prepare for our inaugural class, we are focused on recruiting and retaining top-tier candidates who are not only academically excellent but also demonstrate a genuine passion for emergency medicine and community service. Our curriculum is designed to equip you with the skills necessary to excel in clinical settings and to foster innovation and continuous improvement in your practice.

Robert B. Blankenship, MD, FACEP | Program Director

Medical School: University of Cincinnati College of Medicine

Residency: Darnall Army Community Hospital Emergency Medicine Residency                                                                               

Dr. Blankenship, with his extensive 26-year career in emergency medicine, is a distinguished figure in both clinical and academic settings. His leadership experience includes roles such as Medical Director for various emergency departments, and he has adeptly managed the Mercy West Market Emergency Departments. His academic contributions are equally impressive, having served as Ultrasound Director, Assistant Residency Director for an Emergency Medicine Residency program, and as Residency Director for a Transitional Year Residency.

His military contributions are noteworthy, including the development of the Army's first Tactical Ultrasound Course and earning a Bronze Star for his service in Iraq. Beyond his clinical and military roles, Dr. Blankenship has made significant contributions to the American College of Emergency Physicians, serving as President of the Government Services Chapter of ACEP.

As an executive coach, Dr. Blankenship is certified by the International Coach Federation, focusing on behavioral change and team leadership. He coaches a diverse array of leaders, utilizing Stakeholder Centered Coaching and Birkman's High Performing Teams methodologies. His entrepreneurial ventures include running two online educational companies, demonstrating his dedication to advancing medical education and leadership.

During moments of leisure, Dr. Blankenship finds joy in the company of this family and indulging in rounds of golf.

Sunny Wang MD, FACEP | Assistant Program Director

Medical School: Duke University School of Medicine

Residency:  University of Cincinnati Emergency Residency Program, Cincinnati OH                                                                                  

Dr. Wang joined Bon Secours Mercy Health in 2011.  She assumed the role of Medical Director at Mercy Health – Rookwood Medical Center in 2016.  Swiftly ascending the ranks, she acquired the position of department chair and Medical Director at Mercy Health – Anderson Hospital in 2017.  In a testament to her unwavering commitment to medical education, Dr. Wang assumed the role of Associate Residency Medical Director for Mercy Health – Anderson Hospital Emergency Medicine Residency Program in 2022.  Here, she will foster the growth of the next generation of medical professionals with unparallel zeal and dedication.  Her influence extends far beyond local borders, as she actively engages in numerous leadership and professional endeavors both nationally and internationally, leaving a mark on the global healthcare landscape.  Her stellar contributions have not gone unnoticed, as she was presented with the prestigious Physician of the Year award in 2019 during her tenure at Mercy Health - Anderson Hospital.  In her personal time Dr. Wang enjoys the cherished company of her children and husband, travels the world, and manages a portfolio of real estate investments.
