Salary
Starting salary is 80 percent of a new graduate starting salary. There is no separate tuition fee for the programInsurance
The resident is a Mercy Health employee while actively in the program. The resident will be able to take advantage of a comprehensive benefits package, and this includes health, dental, life, professional liability, etc.
Current Resident
Micah Smith
Micah was born in Van Wert, Ohio, but raised in seven different states ranging from North Carolina to Florida. Micah went to Southeastern University for his undergraduate degree and The Ohio State University for his Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2023. While at Ohio State, Micah spent time at the Ohio State student physical therapy pro bono clinic where he served as a board member, student physical therapist and mentor. Micah also spent time playing intramurals and serving in other opportunities, such as the Special Olympics. As a new member to the profession, Micah is interested in helping the underserved to provide the care they are not able to access or afford. Outside of the clinic, Micah enjoys his Ohio sports teams, antique shopping with his wife, exploring local parks and spending time with his friends and family.
What to Expect
- 32 hours of patient care where the resident is the primary treating therapist.
- Four-plus hours per week of mentoring by a board-certified orthopedic physical therapist. The mentoring will include a 60- to 90-minute discussion on clinical reasoning and/or technique/skill acquisition.
- Physician shadow (four hours per quarter)
- Participation in Monthly Journal Club
- Research project (original work or case study)
