Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center

St. Vincent is home to four Life Flight air ambulances, holds the highest designation for treating high risk mothers and babies, Comprehensive Stroke Center and is a Level I Trauma Center for adults and Level II for children.

Located on the St. Vincent campus are: Orthopedics, Mercy Health Regional Heart and Vascular Institute, Mercy Health Neuroscience Institute and the area’s only Mobile Stroke Unit. St. Vincent provides a modern, attractive and secure campus and takes a leadership role in providing quality medical education and community development.

Mercy Health – St. Charles Hospital

St. Charles has been providing for the healthcare needs of Toledo’s eastern communities. A 390-bed Level III Trauma Center, St. Charles serves residents of Oregon, East Toledo and Lucas, Wood and Ottawa counties.

St. Charles provides a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient care and offers a homelike maternity center, a comprehensive cancer center, acute inpatient rehabilitation services and a women’s health center.  Residents spend time at MSCH for a variety of gynecologic surgical procedures.

Rotation Schedule

Our program utilizes a 13-block academic/rotation schedule. We also have a night float system which runs Sunday night through Thursday night.

PGY1

  • Urogynecology – 1 block
  • Gynecologic Oncology – 1 block
  • Maternal Fetal Medicine – 1 block
  • Labor and Delivery – 5 blocks
  • Plastic Surgery – 1 block
  • Intensive Care Unit – 1 block
  • Emergency Medicine – 1 block

PGY2

  • Urogynecology – 1 block
  • Gynecologic Oncology – 1 block
  • Maternal Fetal Medicine – 2 blocks
  • Gynecologic Surgery – 2 blocks
  • Family Planning/Research – 1 block
  • Labor and Delivery – 6 blocks

PGY3

  • Urogynecology – 1 block

Didactic Curriculum

In addition to the clinical curriculum, the program offers a formal didactics series which includes:

  • Weekly didactics on Fridays from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. featuring a rotating two-year curriculum based on APGO CREOG educational objectives
  • Monthly Grand Rounds
  • Monthly Morbidity and Mortality conference
  • Quarterly Journal Club
  • Monthly simulation training
  • Cadaver lab on average quarterly
  • Access to a laparoscopic lab with formal training in the first six months of residency
  • Robotic Training curriculum.

Research and Scholarly Activity

Every resident is required to participate in and present a Quality Improvement project during their residency. They are also encouraged to complete case reports and additional research protocols if interested. All projects have a faculty advisor who actively participates as well as associate program director who is directly involved with all projects. The OBGYN program has access to a statistician and research assistant for help with development and guidance on the projects.
