Didactic Curriculum

Supplemental to clinical curriculum the program offers a formal didactic series:

  • Our formal didactic series occurs on Wednesday afternoons with four to five hours of protected lecture time. Pediatric attendings and all off-service rotation attendings are aware that our residents will be at didactics during this time every week. Didactics usually consists of core lectures and presentations from residents, faculty, staff, and guest lecturers. A mix of case presentations, lectures and lively, interactive discussions keep these sessions engaging and fresh.
  • Board Review Workshop occurs the first and third Wednesdays of each month. There are question sets that the residents will complete prior to that day’s didactics. This is a resident only session led by an attending to delve further into test taking strategies and key clues provided in each question to help prepare for the board exam.
  • Journal Club is held by each PGY-1 twice during the academic year. Journal articles will be discussed under close supervision of faculty members. Residents will learn to critique medical literature and learn from recent advances in medicine.
  • Morbidity and Mortality conferences occur the second Wednesday of each month except for July and December.
  • Attending and resident-led Board Review sessions occur twice monthly.
  • Simulation training is provided to enhance the residents’ skills on specific procedures. There are dedicated faculty members to carry out these trainings and will give you an opportunity to learn in a risk-free environment to demonstrate a level of competency prior to entering the clinical setting.
  • When a month has five Wednesdays, the fifth one is designated as a Resident Wellness Day.
