FAQ — Internal Medicine Residency at St. Rita's Medical Center
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the strengths of the Internal Medicine Residency Program?
Our program provides community hospital experience with university hospital-level resources. Located in Lima, Ohio, our area provides broad and frequently unusual pathology that provides a great learning experience for our residents. With the support of our institution as well as our community, all residents here have access to our GME Center where we hold lectures, weekly didactics and simulation labs in our state-of-the-art simulation center.
Will I have a better chance of being hired by Mercy Health after participating in the residency?
Mercy Health hopes to retain our “best and brightest” both directly after completion of the Internal Medicine residency or via return after fellowship training. This is not, however, a requirement of the program. We have a goal retention of approximately 20 percent of our graduates as practicing providers in our region or via other Bon Secours Mercy Health facilities across the country. Acceptance into a BSMH facility as attending faculty will be based upon applicant qualifications including familiarity with the precepts of our health care delivery system.
What type of research opportunities are available?
There are ongoing projects among our medical specialties, with resident participation welcomed and encouraged. All residents will participate in dissemination of scholarly activities during their residency. Statistical support services and resources will be provided by the academic research coordinator.
Does the program offer a board review course?
The program offers a very broad-based set of didactic lectures weekly. A complete board review is a central component of our didactics, and all residents get access to MKSAP and Amboss (NEJM Knowledge +).
