Meet the Director and Team

Constance Cashen, DO, FACOS, FACS | Program Director

Medical School: Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Residency and Internship: Michigan Osteopathic Medical Center

Dr. Constance Cashen has been the program director of the General Surgery Residency Program at St. Vincent Medical Center since its establishment in 2006. She is proud to be a private general surgeon whose spectrum was broad through the majority of her career, but is now focused on breast surgery. Dr. Cashen has a legacy of local, regional and national service in medical education.

She currently sits on the board of the Association of Program Directors in Surgery (APDS) and is a member of the Residency Evaluation and Standards Committee for the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons (ACOS).

In 2021, she was the recipient of the Orel F. Martin Medal, which is awarded to an ACOS member who has made outstanding contributions to the osteopathic profession.

She is also a member of the Scope Council, an initiative of the American Board of Surgery (ABS), which is working to develop and institute Entrustable Professional Activities into surgical training programs across the country.

Dr. Cashen continues to prize the opportunities she has to work with young physicians who are dedicated to becoming competent and compassionate general surgeons. She is exceedingly proud of her program's alumni and deeply committed to the General Surgery Residency Program’s continuing success..
