Compensation and Benefits
Salary
- PGY 1: $63,400
- PGY 2: $65,700
- PGY 3: $68,000
Insurance
Available for resident and eligible dependents as per hospital policy. Includes a resident contribution and the following benefits: medical, prescription drug, dental and vision care administered through an approved provider program.
Other insurance offerings include professional liability, life and long-term disability.
Paid Time Off
- PGY 1: 15 workdays
- PGY 2-3: 18 workdays
Academic Stipend
Provided for attendance of one educational conference per year with the approval of the program director. All residents are eligible for $1,700 and five days of conference time per academic year.
Other Benefits
- Moving expenses: Available for eligible residents at an amount not to exceed $1,000 per family. Subject to IRS rules, original receipts required. Program directors determine eligibility.
- Meals: $250 food allowance per month per resident in the Market’s hospital cafeterias and $30 at Market C
- Parking: Provided at no cost adjacent to the hospital.
- Fitness facilities: Located on St. Elizabeth Youngstown and St. Joseph Warren campuses, free, state-of-the-art employee fitness center for use by all employees.
- Childcare: Located nearby is a certified childcare center which provides flexible hours of service. Residents are eligible for an employee discount.
- On-call quarters: Provided for each resident when on call and furnished with appropriate amenities.
- Information technology: Provided in the form of internet access, medical informatics programs/clinical databases.
- Board review course: Provided for senior level residents, subject to program director approval.
Lifestyle in the Area
Youngstown is in northeastern Ohio, roughly 10 miles from the Pennsylvania border. It is situated halfway between Pittsburgh and Cleveland, about 90 minutes from each city center. Youngstown and the surrounding area are home to a large variety of recreational activities including several parks, golf courses, disc golf, museums and historic sites, live theater and music performances, bike trails, as well as many festivals and more. Popular areas for residents to live include Boardman, Niles, Canfield, Warren, Girard and Vienna. The cost of living of the area is much lower than most of the country. There are many interests outside of medicine residents can enjoy.
Call Schedule
- PGY 1: Five weeks of night float (14-hour shifts per night)
- PGY 2 and 3: Average of about 33 calls per year and less than 10 weekend calls per year (traditional 24-hour shifts)
Average Hours a Week
Residents can expect to work 65 to 70 hours per week.
