What is the process of reviewing applications?

Consideration is given to all applicants regardless of whether an audition rotation was completed. Residency applications are considered based on applicants' preparedness, ability, aptitude, academic credentials, communication skills and personal qualities such as motivation and integrity. After applications are evaluated, the program coordinator requests an interview with the applicant. All applicants must appear for personal interviews to be eligible for final selection. The residency program meets to determine the ranking list that will be submitted for approval by the Department of Medical Education.

How many hospitals do residents cover?

Residents cover four hospitals - St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, St. Joseph's Warren Hospital and Akron Children's Hospital of Mahoning Valley.

What are the off-site rotations?

Off-site rotations occur at University Hospital Cleveland for Pediatric ENT, Otology and Head and Neck.

What are the research requirements for residents?

Residents have a research rotation scheduled in the PGY 2-4 years and are expected to complete one full project with the expectation of publication.

What are your minimum scores for COMLEX/USMLE, Step 1?

The minimum scores are expected to be in the 75th percentile for Step 1.

Is there subsidized housing, and is there any help in finding houses?

We do not offer subsidized housing; however, we do offer a moving expense stipend and Medical Education is committed to assisting residents in locating housing.
